Lakeside Program Options
Students coming to Lakeside will be placed in one of the following programs, depending on their test scores, age, period of study, and direction of study:
A.) Regular Grade 7 Program
A.) Regular Grade 8 Program
A.) Regular Grade 9 Program
A.) Regular Grade 10 Program
A.) Regular Grade 11 Program
A.) RegularGrade 12 Program
B.) ESL 8 Program
B.) ESL 9 Program
B.) ESL 10 Program
C.) ESL Intensive Program
A.) Students placed in our Regular Grade Programs:
- Are wanting CREDIT COURSES.
- Have scored well on the English Placement Test.
- Are of the appropriate age and have good grades.
- Have shown an academic potential to succeed at this level.
This program has a small percentage of English as a Second Language classes for international students. The Regular Grade Program offers students a wide range of courses that are all certified with the British Columbia Ministry of Education.
B.) Students placed in our ESL Grade Programs:
- Are wanting CREDIT COURSES.
- Have scored lower on the English Placement Test.
- Are of the appropriate age and have decent grades.
- May be asked to repeat the year if there is little increase with their language level.
This program has a greater percentage of English as a Second Language classes for international students. In this program, some courses are modified for the ESL learner and may not be given full credit at other schools.
C.) Students placed in our ESL Intensive Program:
- Need extra ESL training and/or may be enrolled for a short time.
- Have scored low on the English Placement Test.
- Can move to ESL and Regular Programs with English improvement.
This program has an intensive percentage of English as a Second Language classes for international students. Students may receive credit for some courses in this program.
Lakeside Academic Courses
All courses at Lakeside are Ministry of Education approved and many of them exceed the Ministry's set hours of instruction. Students take core courses and a set of electives depending on their program option.
All courses are designed to have students using English extensively so they may gain confidence in the language.
